Everyone from social media influencers to actors and singers are throwing their hats in the ring to be picked as the first live-action Princess Tiana in the new adaptation of the childhood classic, “Princess and the Frog.”

During a chaotic 2020, Disney announced a “Princess and the Frog” television series. The release date has since been pushed back to 2024 from the original 2022 timeline.

The series is planned to be a sequel to the original film.

However, although news of the series came first, current rumors of a live-action film are gaining popularity.

The live-action film has been purely speculative but that has not prevented the masses from becoming excited at the prospect of the film itself. The cast, the music, the costumes, the food, comments on social media are never-ending. Fan-casts have been popular on social media, and their choices often include at least one person from the original voiceover cast.

One of the most prominent ways the public has shown their excitement is through unofficial auditions.

Ari Lennox, an R&B singer known for her song “Shea Butter Baby,” produced the first public unofficial audition tape to circulate on social media.

On March 20, she tweeted her rendition of the iconic song, “Almost There” by Anika Noni Rose, the original Princess Tiana.

“Hi @Disney I’m Ari Lennox, and I would love an opportunity to audition for Princess and The Frog in person,” tweeted Lennox.

In the month since Lennox’s unofficial audition, no word from Disney on the matter could be found.

In July 2022, Disney announced the re-theming of Splash Mountain at Disney World and Disneyland to Tiana’s Bayou Adventure.

According to CNN, this occurred after a racism-prompted petition.

The company set the opening date for the ride in late 2024 — the same year as the live action “Princess and the Frog” is set to be released.

The official similarity between the dates is unknown but has been the subject of much speculation.

“Rumors have started to swirl that the [Princess And The Frog] series could be scheduled to release alongside the opening of the new attraction sometime in 2024,” reported Jessica Winarski in Inside The Magic.

Though there is less excitement about the ride’s unveiling, there has been much commotion around the casting for the live-action movie, regardless of the lack of foundation for the reality of this film.
