A suspect is in custody following a shooting at Oklahoma’s Rose State College on April 24, leaving one person dead, Midwest City Police Chief Sid Porter said.

The suspect involved in the shooting, 30-year-old Brandon Morrissette, allegedly shot the unidentified 20-year-old victim once at the Oklahoma college on April 24. The victim was pronounced dead upon first-responders’ arrival. Morissette surrendered to police upon confrontation, according to the released Oklahoma police affidavit.

“We are currently experiencing an active shooter situation on campus,” the school warned students earlier that day.

Officers responded to the incident after reports of an active shooter situation.

When officers confronted Morrissette, he got down on his knees and put his hands up, said Porter.

Morrissette’s gun was in his backpack after firing at the victim.

The suspect’s wife and the victim were both students at the college. The wife stated that she believes Morrissette thought that she and the victim were having an affair, which she refutes, according to the police affidavit.

Morrissette’s wife and the victim were walking out of their class, when Morrissette confronted and fatally shot the victim.

Morrissette’s wife was the prime witness to the shooting, and she was the first person who police questioned at the scene. When they asked her who shot the victim, she replied “my husband,” according to the police.

Students and faculty did a “fantastic job” responding to the shooting, according to Porter. They had an active shooter drill in the weeks leading up to the incident.

“We are currently working to coordinate counseling services for those in need,” the school said in a statement posted to their official Twitter account.

Morrissette is facing charges of first-degree murder and is currently being held in the Oklahoma County jail.
