Nine people were injured following gunfire at a teenagers’ party in Jasper County, Texas, on April 23.

None of the victims incurred life-threatening injuries. The shooting occurred at a post-prom house party that 250 students attended, according to police. The names of the nine victims, whose ages ranged from 15 to 19, have not been released to the public. The incident is under investigation, and the police haven’t made any arrests.

“Somehow [the party] got twisted, a bunch of children got shot,” Jasper County Sheriff Mitchel Newman told BBC News.

A second shooting in Jasper County was reported after the first shooting on the same night, with no reported injuries, according to a statement by the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office.

A possible connection between the two incidents is being investigated due to a “common vehicle at both locations,” the statement continued.

People of interest are being questioned, but no further information has been released on possible suspects.

No motive for either of the shootings has been identified, and it’s unknown if any suspects are in custody.

This incident comes after the Texas House passed legislation on school safety bills last Monday in response to the Uvalde shooting, the deadliest public school shooting in the state.

The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are asking for leads from the public.
